Recently, poet Mickey Morgan, was kind enough to read one of my previously published poems, Idle, which you can listen to here.

Idle, was first published in Sarasvati magazine Issue 17 in summer 2011. It’s one of a selection that will be appearing alongside my themed poems in my forthcoming collection, A Model Archaeologist, by Eyewear Publishing.

It’s always interesting to hear your own work read by another person.
When I write a poem, I hear it in a certain way in my mind. Idle was one of my more frivolous batch, and indeed when I read it aloud, I tend to adopt a playful, almost puerile manner to convey the obstinate tone of the poem. But Mickey’s reading gives it a more serious, sinister edge, which gives it a different dynamic altogether. Gotta say,  I love it! What a new angle on my own piece. Check out more of Mickey Morgan’s poetry at her writing blog.

It is in the same Twilight Language as is “Idle”.* *And I am pondering and will further contemplate what you wrote as to your initial intentions for “Idle” and my subsequent redressing of it . . . letting the energy run through me and come out as it did as it encountered my life essence . . . yes, sinister . . . sinister times for me now.* *So, I’ll get back soon . .. gotta gear up to visit my darling stepsister dying of cancer about 3 miles from here . . . at 3pmEST. • I love your reading of it, Mickey! And what fascinates me is how subjective poetry is and how the tone & feel can be interpreted in different ways. You’re right that Idle works well in a frivolous light, or a darker mood. I look forward to reading more of your work too and I’m flattered that you liked my poem enough to read it – thanks 🙂

    • I’ll have a read/listen and let you know my thoughts 🙂 Always great to keep spreading the reach of poetry into the far corners of this world… and maximising publicity for the poets too 😉
