This week I’m promoting my novella, Zombie Reflux. Instead of publishing an excerpt chapter for people to read online, I’ve decided to do a dual screen read-as-you-watch video.

I chose to present my reading this way for one simple reason: although one’s imagination is key when listening to a story, watching an author read their work simply isn’t enough for me, unless it’s a dramatic piece and they’re a trained actor! I felt it would be easier for an audience to read the text as they hear me read.

I hope you enjoy the product of my experiment!

    Hi Leilanie Stewart

I watched your video–you do well on narrating your story. You are a creative writer but you could be more creative in the ending of your story–less words more creative image–show don’t tell. “Brevity is the soul of wit” Refrain from being long-winded! You’re good but I see I could edit. Create vision for your Reader–for it is your Reader you must impress to keep them wanting to read future reads. Instead of using the word dead be more creative–he ceased living– death consumed him.

When I first started my writing career–I enrolled and completed a children’s literature course and I was taught to show don’t tell. Create vision while narrating. Please regard my advice as a new Author for instruction purpose. Even the best of us need to take advice from other writers.

    Have a good one!

Is Bindweed Magazine your magazine Leilanie?

    • Thanks for watching my video, Donna! Your feedback is much appreciated.

Yes, Bindweed is my labour of love. Having my fiction & poetry published in UK and US magazines gave me my start about a decade ago, so I wanted to do my bit to give back to the writing community!

Leilanie, I knew you were a professional–so am I yet I still need to create vision when I speak–that’s my weakness, so I see it immediately in others writing. I would like to know if you have other writers writing for your magazine and if not would you like one?

I was published in the UK also!

Please do not be insulted by my words I expressed earlier–we all need improvement especially when some other writer points our weaknesses out. We improve from that–and remember I already knew you are professional.

I would like you to purchase my book then I’ll support you too. I want to know your views on my writing. It’s not everyone whose perspectives I want. Here is a link for you to check-out my work.
I recommend you read OCEAN OF EMOTION or DESPAIR etc. Thank you

And be sure to be completely honest with me woman ok?

    • Hi Donna,

Yes, Bindweed Magazine publishes writers from all over. Issue 2 is full and I’m back-logged with submissions through until October, but the reading period for Issue 3 opens on July 1.

Thanks for the offer to read your work, but unfortunately I’ve stopped doing professional reviews because of working on Bindweed in addition to my full time job as a Creative Writing tutor and my commitments to my London based publisher, Eyewear (spoken word events and so on). Good luck with your book though!

    Hi Leilanie

I thought you needed writers! Many want others to read their work I find– yet others won’t reciprocate. But, I realize that’s not your case because you are a busy person and I totally understand that. So I tell people if they want me to read their work then they must read mine too.

I have other magazines I could write for but for some reason I thought you needed writers! I will be placing my book for advertising with Shelf Unbound for July!

Have a good one and God bless!

Wow what an imagination. Not really my sort of thing, to dark for me but very well thought out and makes you really want to know what happens to poor Eric next?
One thing on page 8 where it’s written innards you say intestines not sure if this is relevant or not?
Wishing you the best with this,
    Kevin.

    • Hi Kevin

Thanks for watching and for your feedback! Very much appreciated.

You’re right – that was a mistake on my part with my reading. I’m not as good at memorising my work as I am at writing it…woops! 😅

      Glad to hear from you!

  9. Kevin Crookes says:

    Hi Leilanie,

Don’t worry about not being good at memorising your work, I do a lot of Skype in the classroom sessions reading my children’s books and I’m always making little mistakes lol.

    Best Wishes,

    Kevin
